Perpetual Contract Fees: Trading Fees and Funding Fees Explained
Perpetual Contract fees are made up of a trading fee, charged each time you open or close a position, and a funding fee, settled periodically between long and short holders. Fee rates for Gold (XAUUSDT) Perpetual Contracts are shown on the Contract Details page in the trading interface.
Fee types at a glance
| Fee type | When it is charged | Who pays | How it is calculated |
| Opening fee | When an opening order is filled | The party opening the position | Trade price × quantity × contract value × fee rate |
| Closing fee | When a closing order is filled | The party closing the position | Trade price × quantity × contract value × fee rate |
| Funding fee | At each periodic settlement | Long or short holder, depending on the Funding Rate | Mark Price × quantity × contract value × Funding Rate |
1. Trading fee
Each time you open or close a position, the platform charges a trading fee based on the trade amount.
Trading Fee = Average Trade Price × Trade Quantity × Contract Value × Fee Rate
There are two fee rates:
- - Maker fee rate: for limit orders that enter the order book and wait to be filled. They add liquidity. The rate is lower.
- - Taker fee rate: for market orders that fill immediately. They remove liquidity. The rate is slightly higher than the Maker rate.
For how the Maker and Taker rates apply to the order types, see “Perpetual Contract vs CFD Differences”.
2. Funding fee
Perpetual Contracts have no expiry date. To keep the contract price aligned with the spot index price, the platform settles funding fees between long and short position holders at set intervals.
- - When the Funding Rate is positive, long holders pay short holders.
- - When the Funding Rate is negative, short holders pay long holders.
Funding Fee = Mark Price × Position Quantity × Contract Value × Funding Rate
Vantage applies funding adjustments to your account. For how the Funding Rate is set and how often it settles, see “Funding Rate Introduction” .
3. Fee summary
| Fee type | Trigger | Party charged | Calculation basis |
| Opening fee | Upon opening fill | Opening direction | Trade price × quantity × contract value × fee rate |
| Closing fee | Upon closing fill | Closing direction | Trade price × quantity × contract value × fee rate |
